Jester finished

I think it is finished! I usually have to sit a piece on the easel and look at it for a few days before I decide if it is really finished. This 12X12 canvas is a combination of painting with acrylic, collage with "painted and collaged" papers, with stamping on the background. It will be pretty hard to change at this point, so I'd better like it.

Mini Me

Hubby and I are enjoying the grand kids for
a few days. My 9 year old granddaughter has taken up painting.
I was so excited when I saw this one. I ask her to show me how she did it,
and of course that thrilled her. She has a good sense of color, and does everything with such ease.
It is so fun to see what kids come up with before they get  all the rules drilled into them. She has entered 2 pieces into a juried show in downtown Austin. Hoping for the best!

TRUTH

This frame was the perfect housing for the Pinocchio assemblage. I found all of the items here and there, and put them together, to make a house for Pinocchio, for our granddaughter. I'm not sure she appreciates it right now, but someday she will. The game pieces, etc. spell out "truth" which is a reminder for all of us. "True" is my word for 2011; be true to myself.

EAST MEETS WEST

Looking forward to hanging Asian influenced art with a friend, Nancy Brandt Brown.
We will have several pieces at Franklin Fine Jewelers during the month of February.
Opening reception will be Friday evening , Feb 4th. Come by to see us, and we will share our
fortune cookies. There will be a variety of watercolor and collage.
Friday, the 4th, is also First Friday on the square. There is live music all around the square in many of the shops; lots of people, and lots of fun!

Red Phone Box, ours is green

I was walking around the square the other day and realized that there is still a public phone on the corner.
I remember as a child seeing and using the phone booth. You put coins in the slot, and then you could dial the number. One of the fun things to do as a teen, was to see how many kids you could get into a phone booth. Of course now with mobile phones, I don't suppose anyone uses the one downtown. It is pretty and charming on the corner. My curious mind went to google and read all about The Red Phone Box, created by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott. Very interesting.

Whats-on-your-workdesk-wednesday

When I remember, I take a picture of my desk on Wednesdays, to post along with a lot of other bloggers.
It's fun to see how others work, and what they are creating. My desk is a real mess right now. I have started a collage, and of course I can't move anything, or clean up, because all my little pieces of paper will be out of place! The little guy on the left is a jester,  although right now he looks more like Sally Fields in "The Flying Nun".

Zumba- Boomba!

It was a great day today!! I knew it would be, once I did that Zumba!  :>) I haven't worked that hard since I ran the New York Marathon. Dancing is a love, that doesn't happen often enough, so that satisfies that desire, as well as burning a few calories. They say you can burn up to 1000 calories an hour, with some speed of course. I did NOT burn 1000 calories. They give you this little silk scarves with jangles, to tie around your hips. It was a sight to behold.
I also went to our wonderful local library and checked out a book on Photoshop; free of course. It says "Create While You Learn-Start to Finish". Should I believe everything I read???
I just listened to this wonderful audio by Jean Houston (a woman I greatly admire). After listening to her, I feel like I can do anything I set my mind to.
I hope you all have a great day also.
