Some scenes from last night's Chinati show at Atelier 95, in Taylor. There was a good crowd, plenty of wine and snacks, and a great Cajun dinner by Cafe Lafayette.  A lot of very good art, and some very interesting installations, at the Transportation show in the Main Gallery.

Road Trip

On a recent overnight trip to Houston, we visited many art gallery's, the Glassell School, and the Fine Art Museum.   .http://www.mfah.org/visit/glassell-school/   It was great fun going back to the Glassell school, where I took several art classes eons ago. The beautiful Cullen Sculpture garden is situated between the school and the museum.  There was a flowering tree projected on the wall in the mfah. It swayed back and forth, and was so beautiful and mesmerizing. Outside of a local gallery, someone had taken advantage of a dead tree. They white-washed the bottom half of the tree; the top was still orange with dead leaves. Very creative I thought.

Monoprint

I have been wanting to try a mono-print with acrylics.
First I chose some colors that I thought would look well together.
I used gessoed  watercolor paper and painted a background, then
used plexi glass to make my prints. The paint was put on the plexi with an old credit card instead of a brush
to give it a more organic feel, letting each color dry in between prints. The paint was rather thick.

It needed some "punch", so first I cut pieces of black paper to place where I thought they should go, and then I used a lid, a cork, and a little cup to print the black acrylic.
Not perfect, but a good try, I thought. Hopefully the pictures will come out in order.
