One more

One more picture from South Texas.
This big rock sits in the Rio Grande River at a place commonly called "the narrows", for obvious reasons, I guess. This scene is in the movie Lone Star, a very good Texas thriller. Getting back to art tomorrow; I'll show you what I've been working on.

Memories

More sights of South Texas.
Notice the little baby owl sitting up in the window. It just sat there looking at us for the longest time.
Does anyone remember the old Coke cooler, or the Pearl Country beer coolers?

These brought back a lot of memories
The cacti are crying for a drink of water!

Hot and dry

I know it is hot in so many places this summer, but it is still good to look for the cool beauty in life.
The sunset over the Rio Grande River is a beautiful site, as is a good cold beer and a cowgirl hat.
South Texas grass is suffering, however there are wonderful mesquite trees everywhere.

Good food, good friends, life is good.

What's all that noise?

Thunder and lightening!! We had a wonderful rain while is South Texas; just didn't rain long enough.Wanted to bring some home with me.
We took wonderful rides in the evening.
This beautiful cloud came before the storm, and the lightening gave us all a wonderful light show!

Pouch to Purse

When I ordered some CD's from KC Willis at Lipstick Ranch, she sent the CD's in a pouch that she had made.
I loved it so much that I lined it, bought some fabric tape to match, to use for a handle, and made a shoulder bag.
It is not made for a heavy load, but will add some class to an outfit for a special night out.

Inktense color chart

It is always good to do a color chart when working with new product.
These Derwent Inktense pencils were applied to wet muslin. The color definitely gets much lighter when it dries, so you have to take that into consideration when thinking about your finished piece. It will be fun to experiment with them.

On to new adventures

Cleaning up my studio and putting away my fabrics for awhile. I feel like painting; maybe it is because of the heat, I'm not sure. Painting just seems like a cooler project, and there are some new things I have been wanting to try. We have had triple digit heat for over a month now with only a small amount of rain one evening.  My new Inktense pencils are very bright when water is used with them. I have used them on fabric, but will experiment on paper this weekend. You can read about the pencils here. The interesting thing is they are permanent after they dry and you can paint over them, unlike other watercolor pencils. This is not a commercial for Derwent even though it might look like it.  :>)  The jury is still out on these pencils. Will see how the paper projects work out, and I will report back.

Latest collage

I love the muted non-colors of this piece.  A little light brown, beige, and lots of off white make it very restful and beautiful in my view. I'm having such fun; it is hard to stop. I guess I will keep going until I tire of it, or run out of fabric. I really doubt that will happen because my generous friends keep donating to the cause. :>)

Greetings!

When we travel I like to have something creative to take along.
Painted  pages in a small watercolor journal work very well for cards.
When time allows, I can decorate them anyway I feel like it.
These cards have Zentangle designs on them. I used colored gel pens for some when it seemed appropriate, otherwise black was used.

Blue Monday

I love the color blue also, so it is not hard for me to find beautiful blue things.
This pillow was made by my sister, using the dress fabric of our younger sister who died much too young.
I keep it in my living room so I can see it daily, and remember the funny things that our sister used to do. She always had something up her sleeve for entertainment.

The True Story

Yesterday, after I posted Madonna of the Streets, I began to wonder how she got such a unique name;
Google came to the rescue. There is a heart warming story here, if you are curious, like I was. You will  be delighted reading this, and maybe you can even help solve the mystery of the missing painting.

Madonna of the Streets

Still working on the Madonna series. This lady is Madonna of the Streets. These colors are some of my favorites, however not sure about the pearls; may be too much. There are blue stones near the top, and an antique pin on the bottom left. I have had that pin for as long as I can remember. The back was broken off, so it was put to good use. The collages all vary in size depending on what fabrics I pull out to use. This finished piece is about 11X14. I hang mine on the wall as is, but it could be framed if wanted.

WOYWW

Just received this stash from my sister to use in my fabric collage.
I have several more to make for our show at the Library in December.
Have been thinking about using a Nativity scene on a few, just like I used the Madonna.
For those that live in small quarters, or do not put up a tree, I think it would be very nice.

Low keyed watercolor

These  watercolors were done with a minimum of colors, wanting to keep it simple, but still capture the feel of the old dairy barn and the old church. They are both in Michigan where we sometimes vacation and see family. The attic of the dairy barn held many family treasures at one time. We were lucky enough to get a few of these. My hubby and I both love the old, aged, and well worn articles. They usually are worn in just the right places, and you can tell that they have been loved by many through the years.

Girl's Night Out

Girl's night out at Wonderful Things! Plenty of Bellinis, Dillapenna on cream cheese, Raspberry cheese cake, and more. I even got a hand massage by one of the wonderful girls. They were giving foot massage, back massage, foot soaks; lots going on. Also came home with a new pair of pj's. Big sale!! This could become a habit!
